Proper Storage: Tips for Storing Nuts Longer
2 Mins Read | 03/11/2024
Nuts are delicious and nutritious, whether as a snack or as a complement to dishes in cooking, as they add crunchiness and texture to food, and there are many types! Nuts contain rich natural oils, making them more susceptible to damage if not stored properly to maintain their quality and taste for as long as possible.
Here are some tips for storing nuts properly:
- Store in a cool, dry place: Due to their natural oils, they can oxidize faster if exposed to heat or humidity. It is preferable to put them in the freezer or refrigerator and monitor the temperature, as the appropriate temperature for storing them in the freezer is -18°C and the suitable temperature for the refrigerator is 4°C.
- Keep them away from light: Due to their sensitivity to light, they should be placed in opaque, airtight containers so that light does not spoil their natural oils.
- Roast nuts and don't mix them: We recommend dividing the nuts and not mixing different types together due to the varying proportions of natural oils and moisture in them. Roasting nuts helps remove moisture and extends their shelf life.
- Use glass or ceramic containers: Avoid using plastic for long periods due to its effect on the flavor of nuts or its reaction with the natural oils in nuts. Therefore, we recommend using glass or ceramic containers and closing them tightly to prevent air or moisture from entering and losing their crunchiness and flavor.
